I am a native French speaker registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, working in the NHS as well as privately, and trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) a technique recommended by NICE, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, as it is most successful in the treatment and resolution of Post Traumatic Stress.

My approach is aimed at supporting and promoting ways of reconnecting, by building bridges between members of a family, or within a couple; but also between “mind and body”, between thoughts and emotions, between brain and mind. To me, mind and body are not separate entities, but are words to help us think about the links between aspects of ourselves and our relationship to the world and to one another.

I specialise in working with families, with couples and with trauma resolution. I see couples together and separately. I have particular experience in working with mothers.

In Family Therapy, I offer a Systemic approach with one or several family members, with the view that when one person has a problem in a family, the whole family has the problem; but it also means that every member of the family has ideas about how to solve the problem. Family Therapy will help people feel empowered and more in charge of their own destiny. The number of sessions varies, from one (using Solution Focused Therapy) to more long term. I sometimes see families together, and more often use relational thinking to work with parents, individually or together. I have particular experience in working with mothers.

Using EMDR:

Trauma can occur when we are exposed to something too sudden, too awful, too unacceptable for us to process it at the time. We cannot use the normal fight or flight response, but freeze. Based on our current understanding of the working of the brain, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (usually eye movements based on REM sleep, but also alternate tapping or audio stimulation) to help the two sides of our brain to reconnect in order to safely tell the story of what happened to us, in order to move on, away from the terrifying effects of trauma, so that nightmares, intrusive thoughts, panic attacks all disappear for good.

Successful therapy depends on the relationship between client and therapist joining forces in mutual respect and working towards relief of pain and a renewed enjoyment of life.
