I have more than 20 years experience of working in the field of emotional and psychological well-being in both NHS settings and private practice.
The reasons why people seek out the professional help of a psychotherapist are always very individual but can include:
difficulties in making and sustaining relationships
feelings of depression or chronic anger
feelings of emptiness, loneliness and meaninglessness
anxiety, panic attacks and stress
difficulties associated with loss
difficulties associated with trauma in childhood or adult life
confusion about identity.
I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy which is one of a range of psychological therapies. I can offer an initial consultation to help determine whether this approach is appropriate to your needs, at this point in time, and to help you find out whether it is your own preferred way.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy tends to be a longer term process (but not always). It aims, through the development of a therapeutic relationship, to increase our awareness of the way our inner world influences our day to day behaviour. It can help us to develop a stronger sense of who we are and how we function, so that we can feel more in control to make decisions about our life. It can help us to feel more at peace with ourselves and more able to enter into lasting relationships or deepen existing ones.Qualifications & Training 1987 Certificate of Qualification in Social Work.
