With over fifteen years experience as a counsellor I offer professional support to help clients work towards living in a more fulfilling way.
My basic approach to counselling is humanistic and integrative. In other words it's founded on a belief in the value of each human individual, and in the validity and potency of each individuals basic tendency to develop and become more fully themselves. Where appropriate I may also draw on other approaches I have trained in, including Gestalt, CBT, stress management and relationship counselling.
I offer a space where clients can explore issues that are concerning them and work on their own personal development. This may involve looking at patterns of thinking or behaving, reflecting on past experiences, integrating parts of the self which have been separated off, or experimenting with new ways of being.
SHORT OR LONG TERM?
With some clients, usually those coming with fairly specific issues to work on, the counselling may be short term. This would normally be for a set number of sessions - maybe 6 or 8 - agreed at the outset, working with clear goals and keeping a fairly sharp focus.
Other clients come with a more open personal growth agenda, or wanting to work at deeper level, for instance to deal with stuff from the past or to change some very deep rooted pattern, and this kind of work would normally be more open ended and longer term. |
