Adlerian Counselling follows the principles of Alfred Adler, a former colleague of Freud and Jung. His Psychology, called Individual psychology, is based on the idea that we start out in life as helpless babies in a world of competent giants and so carry a feeling of inferiority into adult life. This can leave us feeling discouraged, fearful, depressed and inadequate.
Courage is what is needed to face the challenges of life. However some of us have not experienced the necessary encouragement to help us to feel that we can do this and are feeling stuck. My job, as counsellor, is to become the 'encourager' so that the client will feel capable, connected and courageous enough to continue living a fulfilling life.
