I hold a Certificate and Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and established my practice 2 years ago. I work out of Counselling Works Now (CWN) in Stony Stratford and am an Affiliate Counsellor with CWN, as well as working with private clients. Some of the issues that clients have brought to counselling are difficult childhood experiences, like domestic violence, sexual abuse and parents' acrimonious marriage and divorce; 'knock on' effects that these painful experiences have had on their adult relationships with spouses, partners, coleagues, families and friends; eating disorders (including anorexia and bulimia and 'comfort' eating); panic attacks; Obsessive Compulsive behaviour; Generational issues, like repeated patterns in families. The Psychodynamic model that I use emphasises the importance of the unconscious mind and early, significant relationships in how we relate to others and ourself and is particularly suited to medium (1 - 2 years)and long-term work (2+ years) but can be adapted to short-term work, depending on the issues that a client presents with. I believe that the relationship between client and counsellor is the one crucial factor in counselling and I therefore always use the first few sessions as an opportunity for the client to "assess" me and decide whether I am the right person to work with them and for me to "assess" the client and ensure that their difficulties are within my boundaries and expertise. I offer weekly, 50 minute sessions in the comfortable counselling rooms at CWN. |
