I am a member, teacher, supervisor and training therapist at The Bowlby Centre (Formerly CAPP). I have been in private practice since 1996 working with people experiencing a range of difficulties including: anxiety states; depression; eating disorder; injury related stress; OCD; PTSD; relationship breakdown; sexual identity confusion; work related stress.
I have been trained to work with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and those people who have had a life-long struggle with the psychological consequences of emotional and physical abuse.
I can best describe the philosophy which guides the conduct of my work by quoting three of the Bowlby Centre core values:
We believe that mental distress has its origin in failed and inadequate attachment relationships in early life and is best treated in the context of a long-term human relationship.
Psychotherapy needs to be provided with respect, warmth, openness, a readiness to interact and relate, and free from discrimination of any kind.
Those who have been silenced about their experiences and survival strategies need to have their reality aknowledged and not pathologised.
