Southsea Counselling Service is made up of Libby Webber, Ken Allen, Nicky Bond and Caroline Westley. We are all qualified counsellors, and we work in a range of different ways with clients. You can find out more about this on our website, where you can check out which approach might work best for you.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. We've worked with clients on issues including anger management, bereavement, social anxiety, stress, sexuality, depression, alcohol-dependence, sexual abuse, relationship problems, domestic violence, low self-esteem and eating disorders, amongst many others.
Talking to someone who will listen without judging and without telling you "what to do" can help you come to terms with painful or traumatic events in your life; it can help you change unwanted behaviour; it can help you to understand yourself and those around you better; and it can simply bring a sense of relief to tell your story to another human being, perhaps for the first time.
We know that the decision to contact a counsellor is rarely easy; after all, you'll be talking to a stranger about very personal issues - how do you know you can trust them? We never underestimate how vulnerable and scared clients can feel when they first come to see a counsellor.
In reassurance, we can tell you that as members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, we're duty-bound to respect your confidence in us and to work "for the good of our clients and to do them no harm".
As counsellors, we believe that, in time and with the right support, everyone has the ability to take control of their lives and find meaningful ways of living that are right for them - it really is possible to turn your life around.
