Many situations in life leave us feeling powerless and with a feeling of having no choices. My hope is to help you move from a position of self doubt or insecurity to one where you feel more in control; to give you back a feeling of choice in your life and hopefully the confidence to use that choice.

Counselling gives us the opportunity to step outside our everyday way of being and reflect. In a nurturing and supportive environment, we can begin to understand ourselves more deeply, to discover our inner resources and to recognise what steps we could take to make our lives more fulfilling Sometimes this involves making changes in our lives; other times, in our attitude to ourselves, perhaps through developing compassion and becoming more accepting of who we are.

Often a particular experience prompts the first contact: for example bereavement, loss, redundancy, relationship difficulties, abuse, depression, anxiety, stress, anger or disappointment.

Yet people also come when they are not sure what has gone wrong, and may not have the words to describe the difficulties they are experiencing. It is as if they have lost all confidence and their self esteem has ebbed away.

    Experience
I have been working in private practice for nearly twenty years and worked as a counsellor in a doctor's surgery for seven years.

A lifelong interest in human nature and personal development has led me on to various courses and workshops including family dynamics and gender and relationship issues, the latter with the Centre for Gender Psychology. For several years I facilitated and ran personal development courses including assertiveness training, counselling skills and communications skills. Later I developed and ran a course for older women looking at life beyond the menopause.

    Fees
My fees are £45 for an hour's session (concessions available).
