I am a Holistic Psycho-therapist.
What is a 'Holistic Psycho-therapy'? Essentially the therapy I practice - which is a technique involving certain kinds of thought process to encourage beneficial change in the way we think, function and feel - is placed in the wider context of the whole person: mind and body, personality, relationships, lifestyle, work, leisure, past experience and future direction.
The greatest influence on my training was the work of the charismatic American psychiatrist Milton Erickson. He worked in the United States during the interwar years and was in turn inspired by the work of Carl Jung. Erickson pioneered what we know today as modern hypnotherapy. He was, however, totally committed to the holistic approach to his clients' well-being. He realised that the key to influencing the sub-conscious was a subtle but extremely powerful use of language. An important function of the therapist following Milton Erickson's model is to set in train a process of beneficial change through the use of language and symbolic thought strategies to counter any adverse tendencies at work in the client's sub-conscious. |
