Clinical Experience in Psychology, Psychotherapy
I am a British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Psychotherapist and Health Professions Council (HPC) Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
I work using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to treat a range of difficulties with a particular interest in anxiety related disorders such as panic, phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), health anxiety and social anxiety, as well as depression, addictions, eating disorders, behaviour change, sexual problems, emotional difficulties and Borderline Personality Disorder.
I have experience working for the NHS, non-profit organisations and in private practice.
I have a strong interest in research and measuring therapeutic outcomes. I am dedicated to providing evidence-based psychological treatment therefore I always uses the most effective approaches to treatment based upon the best scientific evidence available.
What to Expect during Psychology Treatment/Psychotherapy
The first session is an opportunity for you explain your difficulties and receive or inquire about a diagnosis (if a diagnosis is required or would be helpful). We will draw up a cycle allowing us to get a better understanding of how your difficulty is being maintained in order for us to understand how to treat the problem. I will then give you a recommendation about the treatment which holds the best evidence base for your presenting problem. I will advise you on approximately how many sessions it will take for you to see progress.
There is no obligation to continue after the initial consultation. If we decide to work together sessions are usually on a weekly basis and last 50 minutes. I usually recommend that people attend for a minimum of 6 sessions and usually no more than 20 sessions but this will depend on your treatment goal and presenting problem.
I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Psychology and Psychotherapy. I abide by the Standards of Conduct Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and the Standards of the Health Professions Council (HPC).
