I work with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, stress, shame, relationship issues (individual work), abuse, bereavement, sexuality, sexual identity, internalised homophobia, loss of meaning or direction, midlife issues, self esteem, spiritual & religious issues and conflicts.
The starting point for my work is the idea of a wound to the psyche, something we all experience but which often heals naturally. The distress that brings a person into therapy is the consequence of a wound too deep to heal unaided, perhaps a wound that has healed superficially but festers beneath the surface. One consequence is that relationships in the present are seen, unconsciously, in terms of earlier relationships and follow outmoded and unhelpful patterns. Therapy offers the possibility of healing, a way of relieving distress and working through the early relationships experienced as wounding, so that more options become available in the present.
I seek to offer this process in a warm and respectful way. I work within the BACP Ethical Guidelines and the Code of Ethics of Re-Vision (a member organisation of UKCP).Qualifications & Training Diploma in Counselling (2000)
