Do you want more from life?
Do you want to make small or big changes to improve your life?
Do you feel depressed but you do not know why?
Are you struggling to cope with a major life event?

Why come to therapy?
Each of us deserves a happy and satisfying life. However, some of us may find ourselves burdened with a wide range of feelings and emotional difficulties that stop us from being happy and fulfilled. We can become stuck in recurring patterns of behaviour or habits that stop us leading the life we want. Sometimes it can be helpful to speak to someone who can give us a different point of view or perspective on a situation. Sometimes a sympathetic ear or someone who just listens to us without judging can be enormously beneficial.

How can therapy help?
Psychotherapy and counselling creates a trusting and secure environment in which to explore unhelpful or difficult feelings and behaviours. Secure boundaries and a confidential setting allow the exploration of difficult feelings that may never have been talked about before. In building a trusting and secure relationship with me, we can begin to understand the impact of these feelings on your relationships and your life. We aim to create more effective ways of thinking and feeling about yourself in order that you can take positive steps to move forward with your life.

People come to therapy for many reasons ...

  • Feeling panicky or afraid
  • Feeling we have not achieved all that we wish for by this point in our life
  • A recent loss such as a bereavement or relationship breakdown
  • Difficulty in establishing and maintaining relationships
  • Using food as a comfort or struggling with an eating disorder
  • Moving away from familiar surroundings whether that be moving house, leaving home or re-locating to another part of the country
  • Difficulties with sex and sexuality
  • Difficulties with family relationships
  • Problems at work such as bullying or stress

    What can you expect?
We will initially talk on the phone and arrange a time and day for you to visit my practice for a 50-minute initial assessment. In the assessment, we will spend time discussing why you wish to be in therapy or counselling, your expectations of treatment, whether you have been in therapy before and a more general conversation about your life history. It is hoped that from this will come a good understanding of your struggles and a solid sense of whether we will work well together. If this is the case, we will arrange a 'slot', a time and day during which we will explore on-going your difficulties and how we can alleviate them.
