I follow no orthodoxy, as no two people are alike, or need the same formula. We work together, face-to-face, starting from how you are feeling. We then look at your early history, background and your individual life experience, with awareness of the many social contexts (culture, gender, sexuality, class and other identities) that are integral to how you are perceived in the world and how you approach dealing with the problems you bring, whether these are about relationships, loss, abuse or other life-issues.
Together we create a space where anything that is going on in your life can be talked about safely, including issues that arise between us. We work together with feelings at many levels, some powerfully present, relating to your current or past experiences; some so deeply buried that you are not aware of them consciously.
I think of therapy as a shared conversation and do not do blank screen. My aim is not merely to help you develop insight into your problems, nor to help you adjust to an unsatisfactory life, but to enable you to take on challenges and live more actively and vigorously in your personal life and in the wider world.
I work across cultures, am LGBT-affirmative and while working respectfully with people from all faith communities, I do not offer spirituality-based or faith-based therapy.
I offer open-ended work or short-term focused therapy for adults, couples and trainees on counselling courses, mainly once-weekly and some twice-weekly sessions. The building where I work has wheelchair access but the loo, though accessible, has no support bars.Qualifications & Training B.Sc. Geology
