Many people come to see a psychotherapist either because they are suffering from some form of persistent symptom or unhappiness, or that they feel overwhelmed by a current crisis. You will be listened to with great sensitivity and helped to become aware of any unconscious issues that may be underlying your present difficulties. Psychotherapy provides a safe and creative professional relationship that enables your mental and emotional capacities to develop. Although a psychoanalytic approach understands that childhood experience is formative and significant, this is not at the expense of paying attention to your future aspirations, and the whole trajectory of your life is borne in mind.
Sometimes it is beneficial to meet more than once weekly. Developing and maintaining lasting changes in life is usually a process which takes time, so quite often the agreement is to work on an open-ended basis.
I also offer brief therapy contracts of 12 sessions when appropriate.
Every psychotherapy relationship is unique. It is not done from a manual and you will not be pigeon-holed or processed according to a set formula. Coming for psychotherapy involves trusting sensitive personal material with a professional. For that reason ethics, confidentiality, safe and reliable boundaries are taken very seriously.
