I am committed to de-mystifying the work that I do. Talking therapies can be hard to understand from the outside and often have a reputation for being aloof. I also think they are often misrepresented in print and broadcast media. There are also so many types of therapies, it can be overwhelming to know what's best for you. I welcome an open dialogue about what it is I "do" and how I believe the process may be of benefit.
If you've made it this far, I imagine you are feeling something that is getting in the way of things. Maybe you are sad, angry, anxious, low, lonely or feeling something that makes it difficult to like yourself or others. Sometimes we don't have good enough words to describe what we are feeling, but we do know that we want to try and change things.
My experience has convinced me that talking about your concerns with someone trained to hear them - and respond to them - in a particular way, can often be hugely helpful. It won't "cure" you, and cannot erase a painful past, but it can equip you to move on with greater ease, and even with a greater potential for further positive change.Qualifications & Training I have an Advanced Diploma (Adv Dip) and a Masters Degree (MA) in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling - awarded after a professionally accredited five year training (at Regent's College & the Minster Centre). I am insured and regularly supervised. I am registered with the UKCP and as such I am bound by its Ethics Code and subject to its professional complaints procedure. I regularly attend further courses to expand, update and improve my skills and knowledge.Experience As well as my private practice, I work for Minster Centre, where I trained, helping students with a part of their clinical training. I have also worked at a university counselling service and for two NHS psychotherapy services. This means I have the privilege of working with people from many walks of life and cultures, and presenting issues.
I have a particular interest and experience in working with women who have experienced a loss in pregnancy or a struggle with fertility. I am a trustee of the Miscarriage Association, with experience of telephone support and training work for them.
I frequently write editorial for the BACP monthly publication, Therapy Today, as well as contributing to national press (including Sunday Times, Grazia).
Before arriving at all of this, I had a brief career as a solicitor, after teaching law at UCL, London University (I have a BA Hons Jurisprudence from Oxford University, and a LLM Kings College, London University). I left the law (before it would have asked me to leave) in order to train as a reflexologist and combine this practice with feature/health journalism. This led me (via detours) to my training in psychotherapy.Fees Individual fees: £50 a session (50 minutes), including our initial one. This is a weekly commitment for however long is agreed.
