I work from a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic perspective, based on the principle that problems and distress in the present may stem from experiences earlier in our lives. Understanding these can help you to gain fresh insights and to find the best way forward. In regular weekly sessions we could think together about what may be troubling you:

  • depression.
  • low self-esteem.
  • anxiety and stress (eg panic attacks).
  • difficulties at work.
  • loss, including bereavement, divorce, redundancy.
  • relationship difficulties, including repeating the same relationship, difficulties finding and sustaining relationships or conflict.
  • trauma including abuse or violent crime.
  • infertility, postnatal depression, termination and abortion.
  • identity and sexual issues, eg sexuality.

Taking the first step to seek help and contact a counsellor is not easy and you will want to ensure the person you chose to work with is properly qualified and experienced. It is also important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor because counselling is a collaboration between two people working together. I offer an initial consultation to enable you to meet me, ask any questions you may have and to explore your needs and expectations of counselling.

All enquiries are strictly confidential and you do not need a GP referral to make an appointment. To set up an initial consultation or to discuss any questions or concerns you may have please contact me by telephone or e-mail.

    Qualifications & Training
I did my professional training at WPF Therapy and hold an Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic counselling and Psychotherapy and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Studies from Roehampton University. WPF places great emphasis not only on a candidate's theoretical knowledge but perhaps more importantly on their clinical work and insight gained from personal therapy.

    Experience
I addition to working private practice I teach counselling and therapy at WPF Therapy and work in the voluntary sector running workshops on therapeutic parenting for parents and carers of fostered and adopted children.

    Fees
My fee in Balham is £50.
My fee in The City is between £50 - £80.
An initial consultation at either practice is £45.00 and lasts between 60 - 90 minutes.
I offer a limited number of reduced fee places for those on a low income or in financial difficulties.
