As an experienced psychotherapist in Whitton & Twickenham, I aim to provide a safe therapeutic environment for clients seeking help with psychological issues. You will find me warm and easy to talk to. I enjoy helping people find a way forward; not by imposing my values on them. I consider my role as a vocation and a calling. You can therefore rely on me to listen with sensitivity and understanding. I provide a confidential, down-to-earth service that allows you to explore your issues in-depth without any hidden agendas.
In these difficult times, you may be seeking short-term, solution-focussed work; or longer-term therapy at more emotional depth. I focus on depression, trauma, bereavement, anxiety, stress and anger. As in life, the most important aspect of counselling is the quality of the relationship. You will find me empathic, compassionate and responsive to your needs.
I have a very rich life experience and have worked in different professional settings. I am open-minded, always learning from others and have collaborated with people from diverse social backgrounds. I work with adult men and women, individually and in couples. Clients come to me, because they want to talk in a warm, confidential and empathetic setting to express their concerns, resolve ingrained patterns of behaviour and learn how to make alternative choices.Qualifications & Training MSc. PGCEExperience I am a counsellor in Whitton and Twickenham. Throughout my life I have been profoundly affected by my experiences and work with other people. I am fascinated by the interior lives of human beings and the cultural settings in which they live. In so many ways the most profound insight I have had is to realise how extraordinary we all are, even as we live ordinary lives.
As a qualified and experienced psychotherapist (MSc Psychotherapy) I have been working in a variety of different settings. As well as working with private clients, I was the first male counsellor to work in a rape crisis centre in Portsmouth. I also worked as a counsellor at Winchester University and remain a lecturer in counselling at Saint Mary's University. And I have spent time working on a psychiatric ward with service-users who suffer various degrees of mental disorder.
I now work as a counsellor in Whitton & Twickenham Counselling & Psychotherapy Service. I can also train people in 'life coaching' and self-awareness techniques.
I see my work as a vocational calling. As a therapist and counsellor I aim to help people heal their pain and move towards freedom and change. I believe in a humanistic approach to therapy, which values the unique qualities and experiences of each human being. I respect the autonomy of individuals to chose their own path in life and help them to achieve this through a process of collaboration.
It took five years of training at post-graduate level and many hundreds of hours working with clients and in supervision before I qualified. Most of my training took place at the prestigious Metanoia Institute in Ealing. I trained in counselling theory, experiential work and as a clinical practitioner. I run a private practice at Whitton & Twickenham Counselling & Psychotherapy Service, but I also lecture and supervise trainee counsellors with the CPCAB and degree courses at Saint Mary's University.
I am a registered member of the UKCP (see links below) and abide by their code of ethics . I am also a recognised counselling lecturer with the CPCAB.
It has been my privilege to work in this area with many different client groups: including those of different ages, genders, ethnicities, religions and social backgrounds. I am committed to helping people explore their emotional issues and mental health problems, or simply help them with their self-development as they search for a sense of meaning in life.
I think you would find me approachable and empathetic to your needs. I put great store in providing a safe environment where clients can work through their issues in an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality, without feeling judged.
Before becoming a therapist, I had a broad life experience, which I believe has given me a richer understanding of human beings. I worked as a teacher in inner city schools and as a volunteer on various community projects as well as setting up youth groups. I have lectured at university and worked clinically in adult mental health services. I have even studied and lived as an anthropologist among other people in Brazil, Africa and Papua New Guinea. For awhile I worked in Kew Gardens, alongside gardeners, botanists and interpid explorers.Fees £40 individuals for one hour.
£55 couples for one hour.
