I work in a truly collaborative way with you whereby I see us working through issues in the counselling pcocess in order to understand and make sense of them. Often couples are concerned about difference in their relationship but I feel that difference is good and should therefore be celebrated. The difficulty is usually around how it is managed and accommodated but once acknowledged, this I think, allows for the possibility for change.

I always take time to acknowledge your bravery in taking the initial decision to come for counselling as it is not the easy option and can be a very painful process. I might add that things may get worse before they get better and normalise that. I think it is also important to say that I can't wave a magic wand and pretend that you will leave me singing and dancing into the sunset, however the time spent in counselling will enable you to look at yourself and your relationships in a different and healthier way. I want to enable you to have new tools and strategies for managing your lives.

I work with a variety of theories and my experience has informed me that Systemic ideas and questioning can promote change and create difference. I like the concept particularly of curiosity and feel that part of my work is around enabling you to be curious and to ask questions about youselves as individuals and to help you make sense of your relationships. I feel that you can make use of your wider systems in terms of family and friends as it is perhaps unrealistic to imagine that your partners can meet all your needs and expectations.

Psychodynamic theories suggest that the past impacts on the present and I feel that it is therefore important to explore the past, not in a blaming way, but to see if having made some sense of the past you may be able to put it in a container and put a lid on it. Maybe that will allow for the present and future to be different.

I offer brief and long term counselling and it is important for me to reflect on the counselling process at regular intervals to be certain that you continue to find the process helpful.I may ask what has been useful and what could be better of different and I feel that this is an ethical way of working. If I do not have the expertise to help you I will refer you to another professiomal or agency.

Sometimes I may set tasks between sessions, suggest an article, an exercise or a book, again only where appropriate. A great deal of my work centres on the issue of loss, e.g. loss of a relationship, an affair or a job. I liken this to the cycle of grief, not in a prescriptive way, but in terms of the emotions felt and the sorrow box that remains. It is perhaps a way of understanding that you can forgive but maybe not forget.

Finally I am passionate about my work as a counsellor and feel privileged to be part of the journey you are making in your life.

I work daytimes, evenings and weekends and am very flexible. I charge £40 daytime and £45 weekends and I can offer concessions where there are financial difficulties. You can contact me any time on 07717297066.
