Non-judgemental ...
My aim in counselling is to help you better understand your situation and the things that are troubling you at the moment. I will not be sitting in judgement upon you in any way. The benefit to you of this approach is that you remain in charge within the counselling relationship. I do not play the role of the expert, rescuer or judge but instead help you to find your own way forward. My aim is to help you feel empowered to to make your own decisions.
Ethical ...
I receive regular supervision from a more experienced counsellor who helps me give you the best support possible. I also attend regular training courses to keep updated with good quality practice. I abide by the Ethical Framework of the Association of Christian Counsellors and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Confidential ...
Your counselling session is a confidential conversation between you me. Even the brief records that I keep will use a code to prevent them from being identified. Your name and address are kept completely separate from the other information about your counselling and both your personal data and counselling notes are kept in locked filing cases. I hope this gives you the reassurance to relax and feel comfortable to discuss anything with me.
Integrative Counselling Approach ...
I employ a range of counselling skills which are adapted to your needs as a client including, on request, a focused course of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (which involves client collaboration in structured cognitive and behaviour change activities). I believe counselling to be a process of working together so that you, as the client, are enabled to find the skills, abilities, resources and confidence which will lead you to greater autonomy and, ultimately, lead you to the point where you no longer need me!
