We all instinctively know that talking our problems through helps us in times of trouble or when we are in distress. Most people need to process their feelings, and it helps to talk, think and even dream about the issues on your mind. You may need to do this over and over again, and therefore it is most helpful to do this with a trained listener who can help you gain new self-awareness and insight so that you can move forward with your life more quickly. All sorts of people now go to counselling or psychotherapy and find it very helpful in resolving a broad range of personal issues.

There are many different types of talking therapy available these days. I am an integrative relational psychotherapist and counsellor, meaning that I bring together certain aspects of different approaches that I believe work better together, including person-centred, humanistic, psychodynamic and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I can therefore tailor my way of working to what you need, while understanding that the relationship between us is a vital factor in the success of your sessions.

The most common problems I come across are depression, anxiety, career problems, bereavement, addiction, anger management and couples & relationship issues. Whatever your reasons for reading this far, I’d say don’t sit with your problem and suffer for too long. The comment I hear most often from clients is that they wish they’d started sooner.

Qualifications & Training

  • MA Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy (includes Post-Graduate Diploma level)
  • BA (Hons) Psychology
  • RSA Assessor Award (NVQ level 4 – degree level)

    Experience
I studied Psychology at the University of Hull and then did three years postgraduate research at Loughborough University in the '80s, before joining a consultancy group there, working in occupational psychology. I left to join Cosmopolitan magazine to set up a courses and careers division for readers, developing and running more than 100 personal development courses. We covered everything from management development, assertiveness training and negotiation skills, to life planning, sexuality workshops and public speaking.

I loved working in the magazine industry and I moved into editing, until my early roots in psychology called me home. I then completed my postgraduate training in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy at Roehampton University to Masters level and I have worked in the NHS, in private practice and in the voluntary sector (in addiction counselling).

    Press:
I often write or am quoted as an 'expert' in carefully-chosen press. I do this to spread the word about the benefits of therapy and to tackle any remaining taboos head-on. However, you can rest assured that I never, ever, write or talk about my clients.

    Fees
    Individuals:
    £50 for a 50-minute session in Surrey.
£75 for a 50-minute session in central London.

    Couples:
    £60 for a 60-minute session in Surrey.
£90 for a 60-minute session in central London.

I am happy to offer two concessionary places at any one time to those on low income or in financial hardship. These are available in Surrey between 10am-4pm and are £30. Please ask me for further details and availability. I also offer a 20% discount to psychotherapy students (off-peak hours only).
