Empathy is the ability of humans to share emotions and feelings. Empathy in therapy increases the delivery of therapeutic healing. The name of my counselling services Empathy Zone reflects my deep respect for empathy and its ability to empower individuals.

My counselling credo follows the counsel of the Hippocratic Oath: Primum non nocere (First do no harm) as well as the ethics and principles set down by the United Kingdom Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (UKAHPP) Code of Ethical Principles and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework of values, principles and personal moral qualities.

My studies, training and continuous personal and professional development agenda are embedded in person-centred philosophy. I work in a person-centered way which means that I specialise in meeting you the person.

My integrity and respect towards you is the bedrock on which my therapeutic counselling is based. During the sessions I draw on a wealth of life experiences to assist me in engaging with you as an individual and meeting your unique perceptions.

This focus on meeting you, the person, is consciously directed at working with all aspects of your personality, feelings, emotions, thoughts, images etc., both positive and negative. In particular if you belong to the seldom heard part of our society I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.

The nature of counselling is such that it has to be carried out in a one-to-one setting. Therefore a great deal of confidentiality and ethical mindfulness goes into sealing the privacy of my counselling sessions. In my therapeutic environment, your wellbeing will be especially safeguarded and in my view one of the key means to achieve this is my responsibility to monitor and maintain boundaries.

As a member of BAPCA and an associate member of UKAHPP I abide by their Code of Ethics and complaint procedure. You can take comfort, reassurance and a high degree of certainty, that my responsibility to you, my counselling credentials along with deep respect for your autonomy are strengthened and safeguarded by my adhering to the standards set out by these professional bodies.

Sessions
I offer confidential, short or open-ended counselling in a transparent, authentic, non-judgemental, and empathetically rich environment, in which you can freely talk about whatever worries or difficulties you are struggling with. Usually you will commit to one session a week at the same time of day.

Each session runs for 50 minutes.

Before you start counselling I will need to carry out an assessment. It will last 30 minutes and is free for clients using the telephone counselling. The assesment will provide you with an opportunity to explore whether the person-centred counselling I offer is what you would like to commit yourself to.
