I have been working as a counsellor with clients since 2002, prior to that I worked as an advisor for the Citizens Advice Bureau for 6 years. I currently run a private practice from home, near to Guildford town centre and the mainline station. I also work for Alton Counselling Service as a counsellor and an intake worker. I have a wide experience of working with different client groups, including working as a counsellor for a GP practice, working as a student counsellor at a College of further Education and working with clients at SADAS (an alcohol and drug agency).
In my work with clients I have found that counselling has many benefits. It can help alleviate emotional pain and suffering and can help you develop new skills to deal with the problems at hand. It can also give you a safe space to look at your life and decide what you really want.
I have been trained as an integrative counsellor, which means I am able to vary my approach according to a particular client's needs. Integrative counselling is not tied to any single therapy since its practitioners take the view that no one single approach works for every client in every situation.
In counselling I believe that an overall structure is essential but does not need to be slavishly followed since counselling is not a mechanical process. The therapy must fit the client, not vice versa. Research indicates that the most probable factors determining a successful outcome to therapy are the personal qualities of both therapist and client and the relationship between them, rather than the particular approach used.
I offer a longer initial appointment, to give you the chance to consider whether the way I work is right for you and us both the chance to consider whether we are able to form a successful therapeutic relationship.
Fees I currently charge £40 per session for individuals and £65 for couples.
